We have had several inquires from the Sled Heads out there as to how we arrived at the number 427 for the price of the new Limited Edition. Certainly we feel the book is worth at least that much, but arrived at that particular number by using one of the most important numbers associated with the SR-71 itself. A temperature of 427 degrees C. was the maximum allowable compressor inlet temperature. It was a very classified number for a long time, as it was the limiting factor as to just how fast this aircraft could fly. Under normal cruise conditions, the compressor inlet temps hovered around 375-390 degrees, so the jet was continually wanting to accelerate. As it was the maximum allowable temperature, so too it is our maximum price!
Book #911 was given to President George Bush for his stand against terrorism in a special presentation made in September of 2003.
Book #1 has been requested by several customers, but was specially reserved for to the man who was #1, Robert Gilliland, the first man to fly the SR-71 and one of the co-signers of this book.
Proceeds - A portion of the proceeds from Sled Driver: The Limited Edition, will go to aid Military Family Assist Programs.
